How is today for you?

Posted in Recipes at 8:53 pm by Renee

Well I am a little on the grumpy side, which is to be expected when you diet. I finally got some sleep, after not having any for over 36 hours.

My kids ate a cheese pizza for lunch, and I wanted a slice, just one, maybe a little cheese. But I said no. You must have control. Then they got out the peanut butter and that is one of my biggest all time favorites, I wanted to cry.

I ate celery. my third stalk since Saturday. I did however enjoy a nice lunch. So here you go…

Chicken salad

1 TBS Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1 TBS purple onion

1 3 0z. Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast

1 1/2 cup Romain lettuce

1/8 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Saute onions on low to medium heat, add diced chicken. Cook till done. Toss lettuce, cheese, and cooked chicken together, and drizzle with a garlic olive oil and vinegar dressing, maybe like a teaspoon.

Absolutely delicious.

Drinking water and your health

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:05 pm by Renee

I took the day off from blogging, but I did’t take it off from my partial fast. There are certain foods that I can eat and eat as much as I want. So don’t worry, I am getting needed nutrition.

My goal this week is to increase my water intake.

Awesome article on drinking water. http://nutrition.about.com/od/hydrationwater/a/waterarticle.htm

The start of a new day.

Posted in Uncategorized at 2:55 pm by Renee

Day one- I have been away for a while as this is the place that I would choose to ignore. However, I can’t ignore it any longer. My latest labs prove to be on the bad side and it is time to take some drastic measures. Which means diet and exerscise. So this is the first day of my diet, or I should say, learning a new way of life. It will begin with a type of fast. The good news is, I can have all the diet soda I want, which I don’t like much.

Anyway my goal weight is 135, for my height that is not a bad place to start with.

What’s on the menu for me today. Sugarfree Jello, salmon. I love salmon. I haven’t decided what else I am eating yet today, but I hope that every bit of it is healthy.

Turkey Roll up Recipe

Posted in Recipes at 8:47 pm by Renee

This is one of my favorite lunches.

An alternative to this is:

to use whole wheat flat out wraps and  add a little, just enough to spread a thin layer, of fat free Thousand Island Dressing, or if you like Ranch Dressing, that one is delicious too.

Don’t be afraid to be creative, you can add slivers of purple onions, drop the tomatoes if you like.

Twenty days…

Posted in Cardiovascular, fitness at 8:37 pm by Renee

So it looks like it has been twenty days since I have posted here. Alot has gone on. My mother-in-law had another small TI and my husband tangled with a semi truck, totalling our van. Thank the Lord nobody was hurt.

What kind of cardio have I been doing? Well, when my MIL was in the hospital instead of taking the elevator, I took the stairs, 6 flights. (I hope that is the right word.) Other than that I have been boxig, which I have decided is not necessarily a total body workout. At least not for me. I maybe ambidexterous in a lot of things, but for some reason I am a right handed boxer. The muscle in my right bicep has increased, while my left side has not. I want a proportional body.

My oldest daughter has been trying to talk me into doing a workout video with her, but honestly, and here is one of those excuses, how can a person do an intense workout with another body in the room, not to mention 3 other children and two Great Danes?

On the up side, I am now at 192.5, where is The Biggest Loser when I need inspiration?

Excuses to be healthy

Posted in Cardiovascular, fitness, weight loss at 11:29 pm by Renee

What if we started making excuses to do something about our health, instead of making excuses not to?

My intentions were to write a blog on the excuses we make, but in light of recent events, I decided to make it into why we should make excuses to do something about it.

Did you know that if you carry your weight in your midsection, that you increase your risk for heart disease and diabetes? What about arthritis? Just think of your poor bones trying to carry the excess weight. With every 10 lb weight loss, your risk decreases.

One of my family members recently had a stroke, in my thoughts she was way to young.  I am under the firm belief, if she lived a healthy life style it would have been preventable.

I have plaque built up in my blood and have been on medications for it. Leave it to me to be in the less than 1% to have a reaction that degenerates muscles. Fortunately, we caught the symptoms the first time through, before any irreversible damage had been done. When they switched my meds, the same thing happened.  If I would drop my weight to a healthy level I probably would not have to take meds. My levels would drop naturally. Right now I am taking 6 pills of fish oil, and because my heart rate is abnormally fast, I have to take an aspirin everyday, and pay attention to any changes that might precede a heart attack. Not a way to live when you have young children and haven’t even hit your mid-life crisis yet.

So my plan of attack drop the weight. I hope that you find a reason to live healthy, whether it be for you family or because you want to live life to the fullest.

Have you done your cardio today? Oh yeah, you should probably be drinking half your weight in ounces of water on a daily basis. That would be almost 100oz. for me. I have a lot to drink in a short amount of time.

Have you cardiod today?

Posted in Cardiovascular, Fad Diets, fitness, weight loss at 5:01 am by Renee

Have you taken the time to invest in yourself today? It isn’t brain science and it doesn’t take a huge amount of time.  Even though the recommendation is to walk 60 minutes a day everyday, why don’t you start with 20 minutes then increase to 30 minutes, especially if you are just starting out.

Today is short and sweet, tomorrrow I will cut through many of the excuses that we give ourselves.

To count or not to count that is the question

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:14 am by Renee

So I was having a discussion with my mom today, and she said that I should count all my calories. My natural instinct is to curl my lip and say ugh.  I am sure there are many benefits to counting calories, but the task is tedious.  A good friend of mine said that she was not going to count calories, just watch her portions. I am still on the fence about the whole thing. Since today is my day to begin this whole diet thing, I guess I should know what I am doing, but I don’t.

I do however, know what I have taken into my body.  I had one serving of maple brown sugar oatmeal(yes I know the sugar defeats the purpose), I had half an apple-hey, it’s a start, 2 slices of vegetable hand tossed pizza, 2 slices of ham, olive, and mushroom pizza, and chicken caesar salad.  The pizza, was an all time favorite trap, you know how someone is trying to repay you for something they feel they need to repay you, and they buy you lunch. And you know how it is being put in the position of accepting their kindness. Yeah that was my pizza, I know I didn’t have to have four slices, but it was soooo good.

Did I count calories today?NO!! Because on top of the food, I had a 32oz. glass of soda, and 32oz. water. The soda is 4 servings, hmmm bad, bad. The water is a little over a fourth of what I should be taking in, not enough.

Will I count calories tomorrow? I have absolutley no idea.

How do you feel about counting calories?

Oh and the skinny on my fat cells, 196.5, no measurements as of yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Happy New Year

Posted in Home at 8:23 pm by Renee

Welcome to FairieRing… Some of you may know me as Fairiegreen, an aspiring author. Don’t roll your eyes at me. How many of you have interest in more than one subject? Well my interest here is not purely pleasure, but out of necessity. You see like more than half of the United States I am obese, not that I consider myself too overweight, but according to the BMI I am over the red line.

In the following days, I will try my best to inform you on what certain terms mean, like BMI, I will explore my opinions of fad diets, favorite exercises etc. I will also let you into my private world into weightloss, even letting you know my weight, measurements, and clothing size.

Try not to gag too much…
